Awards Achieved 2015-2017
We have achieved an important benchmark by being awarded LOtC Mark (Silver). This is a powerful statement of our strong commitment to providing frequent, continuous and progressive learning outside the classroom (LOtC) experiences to all of our pupils.
Research shows that children learn best through real life experiences. Taking learning beyond the classroom walls makes learning more memorable and appeals to different learning styles. 99% of teachers say that students are more animated and engaged when learning outside the classroom (Opinion Matters survey on behalf of TUI Education Division, 2010).
Learning outside the classroom enables children to interact in new ways with their peers and adults, improving relationships between teachers and pupils, particularly with those students who are hard to reach in the classroom environment.
We are looking forward to continuing to develop our learning outside the classroom and are aspiring to achieve our Gold Mark Award in the near future!
We are the first primary school in Bromley to achieve the Healthy Schools Gold Award. In addition to holding the Silver Award, we had to show the impact of the changes we made regarding healthy living, well-being and sports were sustained. Our targets were to increase physical participation and Increase confidence and self-esteem, independence and resilience amongst Year 6 pupils in preparation for secondary school transfer.
We are delighted to have achieved the Artsmark in 2014. This award recognises is nationally recognised as demonstrating excellence in arts and cultural provision.
The aim of the programme is to encourage pupils (and their parents) to travel to school in a more active or sustainable way to help reduce the congestion caused by short (single occupancy car trips) on the 'school run'. The benefits include health and wellbeing improvements, and a positive impact on air quality. Research also clearly links active travel to school with improved academic achievement.
This award reecognises and celebrate schools that are making a difference for their pupils with regards to their health and well being.
I am delighted to announce that Midfield Primary School has recently been accredited as a Ruth Miskin Training Badge School 2014 – 2015. We use the highly successful Read Write Inc. Phonics programme to teach our children to read, write and spell. Our children do well in the Phonic Screening Check and by Year 2, the majority are fluent readers with the best chance of success in the KS1 tests and beyond.
Our Bronze Eco School award is an international award programme that guides schools on their sustainable journey, by addressing environmental issues in school and reducing waste. This is an exciting opportunity to educate all stakeholders. The Eco Squad will work towards achieving Silver.
