Welcome to Nursery!

Welcome to Butterflies Class.

We have a team of four members of staff to support all children in their learning and development in their first or second year of nursery.
Miss Fellowes - Class Teacher, Miss Roots - PTP, Mrs Kaley

and Miss Udomhiaye- PTP

At Midfield , we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum, comprising 7 areas of learning which are divided into 'prime' and 'specific' areas.

         Prime Areas:                                                                   Specific Areas:

         Personal, Social, Emotional Development                      Literacy
         Communication and Language                                        Mathematics
         Physical Development                                                    Understanding the world

                                                                                               Expressive Arts and Design

We give equal importance to our indoor and outdoor learning environments, and children have free access to both areas throughout the sessions.

We have a child-led approach to teaching in nursery which we strongly believe is the best way for young children to learn and make outstanding progress. This method allows your child to choose what they want to do within the learning environments, where enthusiastic staff join them and support them in their pursuits, identifying all teachable moments, thereby allowing your child to make progress in very short spaces of time.

This requires staff to utilise their teaching skills 'in the moment' whilst your child's interest and motivation levels are high. All staff in our Nursery Class fully implement the 'key worker' approach to support each child and their family throughout their time in our setting.

We are very fortunate here at Midfield and have a wonderful outdoor space including a musical garden, trim trail, Celtic hut, edible garden, mud kitchen and access to our forest school area on a weekly basis.  The children love investigating the different areas allowing them to enquire, grow and develop in a range of ways, gaining new skills.

Termly Overview  - Spring 2

Our theme for this Term is 'How does your garden grow?'.

We will be exploring nature, garden discovery, planting, wildlife and minibeasts. Each week we will investigate each of these topics and implement it across all areas of the EYFS curriculum.

We look forward to hearing the children's exciting ideas and observing their interests, which will further inform our in the moment planning.

This term we will be continuing to learn our set 1 sounds daily through the Read Write Inc scheme. Children have now been put into groups for Literacy,  focusing on progressing their phonetic sounds and letters. We will also continue to explore activities from Letters and Sounds (Aspect 1-7) to build on children's speaking and listening skills.

This term our maths focus will be mathematical language and space and measure. Although we will be continuing to explore maths in all aspects of learning through numbers, counting patterns, capacity, sorting, shape, measurement, numbers and positional language.

Don't forget you can also keep up to date with your child's progress and what's going on via ClassDojo.smiley
