Bedtime Stories

Our Bedtime Stories initiative for children in Grasshoppers, Bluebirds, Owls, Ladybirds, Rabbits and Foxes kicked off with a bang.  The staff at Midfield  wanted to share their love for reading with the children.  Thank you to parents and children who braved the dark to attend our Bedtime Stories.  We loved your enthusiasm and we really enjoyed sharing some of our favourite books with you in front of a fire - albeit a virtual one!  Mrs Viljoen is hoping to improve her hot chocolate making skills in time for the next time bedtime stories event!

International Week

As part of British values we celebrated cultural week and the diverseness of Britain.  Parents from across the school were invited to come in and talk about their heritage, to share dances, art work and food.  This allowed children to embrace the similarities and differences between their family and that of others.   We thoroughly enjoyed this experience as it allowed us to embrace different cultures and it enriched our learning.

Here is a few pictures from the week.

Celebrity Football in aid of Midfield Primary School:

On Sunday 26th September (in true Midfield style), staff, parents, carers and children descended upon Welling Football Stadium to support the celebrities who were playing football to raise money for our school.  Jake Wood from EastEnders captained the Blue Team, which Mr Le Conte and Miss Dalton were a part of.  Dan Osborne, well known for his role in Towie, captained the Red Team.  Mr Frost was a part of the Red Team and, who we are proud to say, scored a goal for his team.  Unfortunately for the Red Team, the second goal was disallowed.  It is worth mentioning that the Red Team lost 5-6!

We even featured in the Bromley Times:

Midfield Primary School spread Christmas cheer

The choir from Midfield Primary School in Orpington did their bit in a Christmas knit for Text Santa this morning.  The pupils performed stunning renditions of Christmas classics jingle Bells and We Three Kings in the Good Morning Britain studio this morning!

Empty Classroom Day - 19th June 2015:

Midfield joined many organisations and schools from across the UK to celebrate Empty Classroom Day on Friday 19th June.  It was great fun and exhausting, but lots of learning took place!  Owls made patterns by printing it on black sugar paper using paint and an okra vegetable cut in half.  We also made a 3D-rocket using card and have started with our igloo sculpture using milk bottles.  Next we learned more about the Caribbean. We imagined that we were on a pirate ship visiting a Caribbean island. We played with boats, dug in sand searching for treasure, dressed up as pirates, made shell rubbings and found out which materials sank or floated.  Then we wrote adjectives to describe the water, sand, boats and weather.  Foxes drew pictures of the battle of Hasting on the playground using chalk while all of this action was taking place. In the afternoon we had Sports Day Practice.

Owls, Ladybirds. Oaks and Acorns have been discovering our new forest school site. We have investigating the wildlife and found new areas to make camps and dens. Everyone is looking forward in developing this area further.

Year One has been learning about the Stone Age as well as the Bronze Age.  Stonehenge is thought to have been built during the Stone Age and was probably completed in the Bronze Age.  Children made their own 3D-models of Stonehenge as part of a homework project.  Click on the link below to see our amazing Stonehenge models:
