At Midfield we follow the Core Curriculum when teaching foundation subjects such as History and Geography and in Literacy we base our planning on Read Write Inc and elements of the Power of Reading. We follow the Maths Mastery scheme in Numeracy, but we always start with the child when planning, using the children’s previous knowledge, experiences and interests to motivate, challenge and engage them.
Outdoor Learning forms and integral part of our pupils' learning at Midfield. Children have access to the eco-garden, outdoor music classroom, trim trail, swimming pool, Celtic hut and Forest school sites.
Our History Topic for Summer 1 is Kings and Queens. In Geography we continue our learning on Crazy Continents, but focusing more on the UK (Hooray for the UK!).
We will tie this in with our Science Topic - Seasonal Change and Growing Plants. Our Science topic also ties in with our Outdoor Learning Topic - Forest School. In RE we will continue our topic on Judaism.
In Literacy we will continue to look at setting descriptions, character descriptions and writing stories using adjectives and similes. Children will continue their phonics learning in their various Read Write Inc groups.
In Maths we will recap on Place Value and the Four Operations.
