Learning Outside the Classroom

Outdoor Learning is an important part of the curriculum at Midfield. We are lucky enough to several outdoor areas that we use for outdoor learning including two Forest School sites, an Edible Eco Garden and we are now developing a wildlife pond.

What is Forest School?
Forest School is an opportunity for children to experience and explore their environment. Children are encouraged to develop their independence, improve their decision making skills, and raise their self-esteem through small achievable tasks and new learning opportunities. Forest School at Midfield takes place in a designated area of the School grounds and sessions are run by qualified Forest School Leaders.

Forest School sessions
During a Forest School session the children are outside for just over an hour each week. When arriving at the designated site the children will sit down at ‘base camp’. Here, the activities for the session will be explained and the children will be able to choose their own activities. The session will end back at base camp’ where the children will reflect on their learning.
