This term Ladybirds will be learning all about materials. In our first science lesson we went on a materials hunt throughout the school and then spoke about adjectives to describe the materials. In lesson two the Three Little Pigs approached us and asked us to help them find a suitable material for their roof. The Big Bad Wolf had damaged their first roof when he climbed onto it. They wanted the material to be waterproof and flexible.
Before we could tell the Three Little Pigs which material to use, we spoke about how we needed to test the materials and that we couldn't just guess which one would work. We also had to talk about 'fair testing' and what this meant. After testing all of our materials, we came to the conclusion that plastic would be the best material for the roof as it was the only one that was both waterproof and flexible.
We weren't done yet - we researched the other uses of plastic. We found out that plastic was used for making lots of different things such as toys, shoes, water bottles, stationery etc.
