Autumn 1

Areas Discussed:

  • How can we encourage children to read more at home?
  • How can we improve our existing reading raffle incentive?
  • What would be the benefits of a child-led newsletter?

Actions and Impact

  • A reading survey to be carried out so reasons why children might not be reading can be identified.
  • A new child-led newsletter, run by the Learning Council, to be in print by the end of this half term.

Autumn 2

Areas Discussed:

  • The success of the new school Newspaper 
  • How can we support non-readers and those that don't do their homework at home?
  • How successful is the VIPERS reading scheme in KS2?

Actions and Impact

  • Year 6 reps to recruit new reporters for the next issue
  • The potential for a homework club to be taken to the school's SLT
  • Options for making the library open at lunch again to be put in place 

Spring 1

Areas Discussed:

  • Children very pleased the library is now open at lunch  
  • Children are enjoying the new Clued spelling scheme and like the way it gives them ownership over their learning 
  • The children feel we have a wide curriculum here at Midfield and enjoy learning about a varied range of topics
  • How can we use homework to help us remember more? 

Actions and Impact

  • Mrs Donnelly to speak with the clubs co-ordinator to organise a homework club for next term
  • Newsletter to go out in week 5 this term
  • Children in year 5 to feedback on new homework layout

Spring 2

Areas Discussed:

  • Mrs Donnelly has spoken with the clubs co-ordinator and a homework club will be planned for the Summer term. This could be in the form of a lunchtime club which the children felt could be run by year 6 students. 
  • Year 5 fed back on the homework style they have been trialling which uses knowledge organisers and focuses on quizzing and recall of topics taught in previous terms. They reported they they enjoy the autonomy this has given them and how it allows them to be creative while securing what they have learnt in class. 
  • The next issue of the newspapers

  • Newsletter to go out in week 4 this term
  • New homework policy to be rolled out across KS2
  • Homework club to begin Summer term
