Rugby League Competition

Tuesday 6th February, saw a team of twelve children from Midfield developing their rugby skills as they participated in a rugby event held as part of a Bromley school’s initiative at Park House Rugby Club. New to the game, the team consisting of both girls and boys, were placed into the ‘development pool’ alongside other schools where children were similarly, unfamiliar with the game.

Captained by Tommy Lee Webb, with Ruby Kitterhing as Vice Captain, the children had great belief in themselves. Each game saw them getting more and more confident. Some great tries were scored by Tommy Lee, Tise, Nathan, Shawn, Alfie and Nana. Alfie Gorringe showed great determination whenever he was on the pitch, going to the opposition and spoiling opportunities for them. Every child who stepped onto the pitch, gave their all, which was no mean feat as the temperature on the day was extremely cold. However, in true Midfield spirit, the children battled on.

Although they didn’t win any medals or great accolades, the team showed determination and true team spirit in every game. They also demonstrated skills which can be built on with further coaching with Coach Ben from Skills Academy. With this in mind, next year, they will be a force to be reckoned with.

Team:  Tommy-Lee Webb, Ruby Kitterhing, Nana Appah, Laiba Barlas, Nicola Zukowska, Nathan Cross, Alfie Penny, Alfie Gorringe, Mitchell Porthouse, Shawn Jones, Tise Odunukan, Jake Warren
