Year 3 & 4 Football Competition
Midfield Primary School entered into their first mixed football competition in 2017. The team, coached by Ben from Skills Academy, had never played together until this day. With Mr Palmqvist as lead coach on the day and Mrs Hibberd as assistant, they travelled together by minibus to the event on Thursday 23rd November at Bromley FC. With Bodhi Wise as captain, the team were in a pool with 5 other schools and 3-minute halves.
At first, the team found it difficult to work together, which is not surprising as this was the very first time they had ever played a match together. After a frustrating first game, the team organised a team talk to rearrange positions on the pitch, talk tactics and to boost morale, and then went out again for their second game. The team made excellent progress, game and after game, and in their final match, due to excellent team work, passing and communication, won in the last seconds of the game. Brooke Edwards had shown great determination throughout the afternoon and kept pushing and driving to score, which all paid off in the last game as she scored the winner for the team.
Overall, the team won 1 game, lost 3 and drew 1. Several lessons were taken away from their first experience including, improved communication and team organisation. The team also became aware of their individual skills and abilities and played to these strengths. They focused on an increase in passing accuracy and awareness of positions in the game. The teamwork by the end of just one afternoon was outstanding and seeing the team, you wouldn’t have known it was their first competition. We are hoping to organise more practices and friendlies throughout the academic year, with a view to enter more mixed football competitions in the future.
